The Five Main Parts Of An Ecosystem Pond
​We design and build ponds that suit the space and style of the garden, ensuring that every feature is functional and attractive. We also educate clients on how to care for the pond with minimal effort, so the system remains balanced and easy to manage. Every ecosystem pond is built around five key elements that ensure long-term health and function:
Circulation
The heart and veins of your pond. The correct pump and pipe diameter are important for your pond to function properly. This will keep the water moving and provide the necessary level of oxygen for healthy aquatic life. We also check water circulation and pump systems for smooth running.
Filtration
The biological filter enables beneficial bacteria to colonise and remove excess nutrients from the water. The mechanical filter pre-filters the water and houses the pump; it will skim leaves and debris from your pond’s surface to prevent them from sinking down to the pond floor or building up organic matter. We install biological filters to encourage natural cleaning and make the system easy to maintain.
Rocks, Gravel, And Bacteria
Rocks, pebbles, and gravel create a natural look for your pond. They also protect your pond liner from damaging UV light and help bacteria more easily break down organic debris and excess nutrients in the water. We add natural rock, gravel, and plants to support healthy water flow and blend the pond with the surrounding garden.
Fish
Fish graze on algae and feed from the pond floor, making them excellent helpers for maintaining a healthy pond. We stock fish and aquatic plants in a balanced way to keep the ecosystem thriving.
Aquatic Plants
In addition to being beautiful to look at, aquatic plants are superb natural filters, feeding on the nutrients that promote algae. Plants also help regulate the water temperature and provide cover for fish.
