A Fresh Start for a Garden Pond

This garden pond project, completed in February 2025, began with a call from a homeowner who had recently moved into their new property. Along with the house, they had inherited an old timber raised pond. At first, the plan was to repair it—but once we arrived at the site, it quickly became clear the structure was beyond saving.

Rather than trying to patch up the old pond, we suggested a complete redesign. One of the main issues with the original was its location: tucked away behind the decking, hidden from view. We recommended placing the new pond in a position where it could be fully appreciated from inside the house as well as from the garden seating areas.

Whenever we design a pond, we carefully think about the main viewing points. After all, the best water features are those you can enjoy every day—from the living room, the kitchen where families spend much of their time, and the seating areas outdoors.

For this project, we designed a compact yet striking 2m by 3m ecosystem pond with a 1.5m stream. The new pond now sits beautifully in the heart of the garden, perfectly visible from the house and from every spot on the decking. It’s a feature that blends naturally into the space and creates a relaxing focal point for the homeowners to enjoy year-round.
