A Micro Pond for a Small London Garden

This lovely project took place in a compact London garden, roughly 10 by 5 metres with a patio area. The homeowner wanted to create something special for their children — a space where they could enjoy the outdoors and learn about nature up close.
We were happy to take on the challenge. Even in a smaller space, there’s always room for water, life, and movement.
The client chose our Micro Pond Package, which includes a 2m x 1.5m pond with a small stream — perfect for introducing the beauty of an ecosystem pond into a modest garden. It brings crystal-clear water, aquatic plants, and the relaxing sound of flowing water without taking over the space.
Overcoming Access Challenges
The build itself was a little tricky, as access to the garden was only possible through the house. All waste had to come out that way, and all materials had to go in the same way — a common situation in London where many homes don’t have side gates leading to the garden.Despite the challenge, our team made it work and completed the project in just a few days.
Natural Finishing Touches
For the finishing details, we used small Cambrian boulders and natural wood pieces such as stumps and branches around the pond and stream. We often incorporate wood into our designs — it helps the pond blend beautifully into its surroundings and gives that natural, aged look we love.
And of course, the final 10% of any build is the planting. While not included in our basic pond packages, planting is always available as an optional extra. With over 15 years of experience in garden maintenance, we know how to create beautiful, balanced planting that perfectly complements each pond.
A Pond Made for Family Fun
Since the family has small children, we also added a small beach area at the pond’s edge — the perfect spot for the kids to safely dip their toes and get close to nature.
A small garden, a simple idea, and a big transformation. Proof that even in the heart of London, you can still have your own piece of nature at home.
