From Formal Pond to Natural Retreat

This garden originally featured a raised brick-wall formal pond. While it looked tidy, it turned out to be quite high maintenance — and not really what the homeowner had in mind. Eventually, they decided to remove the pond, leaving behind a circular concrete base as a reminder of what used to be.
A few days after our consultation visit, we provided them with a brand-new design. Since the homeowners travel frequently, they wanted something beautiful yet low-maintenance. So a Fountainscape design came to mind straight away — a series of four elegant fountain bowls, each spilling gently into the next. The largest bowl, an impressive 60-inch centrepiece, creates a stunning visual impact when the water begins to flow.
The system was designed for simplicity and sustainability. One of the bowls is filled with gravel and pebbles and planted with aquatic plants, creating a natural bog filter that helps keep the water clean. Our automatic dosing system adds beneficial bacteria and other natural treatments to maintain excellent water quality.
This is a natural water feature, almost like a small pond with aquatic plants — just without the fish.
The feature can be turned off overnight and only needs to run for a few hours each day — all easily managed with a timer connected to the power socket. When the feature is turned off, all the water drains back into the underground reservoir, where it stays in the dark — preventing exposure to UV light and stopping algae growth.
The installation was completed with large decorative rocks, cobbles, and thoughtful planting to tie the whole space together.
The result is a peaceful, low-maintenance focal point that perfectly complements the garden and the clients’ lifestyle.
